I gave up the '05 Ultra and brought home a 2010 Ultra today. Man what a
differance! Everything is better than the '05. Ride, handling, radio, you
name it.

But how does it look with a torpedo following it?

I wasn't wild about the '05. They screwed up the primary gearing when they
changed from the 3.37 gearing to the 3.15 that was used on the carbed bikes.
Around town in 2nd or 3rd gear I always felt like I was in the wrong gear.
Cruised nice but it felt like a slug going through the gears.

The '07 treated me well and I was sorry to see it go. The thigh-blistering
heat, even off the duals with things richened up and supposedly cooled was
an overwhelming sore spot. Literally at times.

I don't expect the '10 to be perfect, I'll have a verdict on the seat by the
time I get back from Daytona in October, if not before. But it's looking
pretty good so far. Noticed a few little things that needed changed for a
long time..... the passenger footboards are mounted high enough to get to
all the derby cover screws without relocating 'em at the 1st service. The 6
gallon tank is gonna allow me to do a couple of routes out west I wasn't
comfortable with the 5 gallon tank. Hopefully the ABS will help me stop
instead of running into folks when backing up at high speed....

From the limited rummaging around I've done under the seat it looks like
somebody had some bright ideas on mounting the ECM and trays as well as
battery terminals on the top. With a lifting strap even! Long overdue.

The tires are a fiasco and effectively a captive market at predatory
pricing, the competition ought to alleviate that eventually. The wheels are
a giant PITA to clean or even check the pressure on the front. I noticed
there's no longer a gasket around the headlight assembly... you can see
straight back to the backing plate. Guess the MoCo determined getting water
in there wasn't such a bad thing. They've still got that stoopid, POS 1960
spring clip under the top of the headlight trim ring that nobody can ever
get back on. Maybe next year's big improvement.

Be warned, if your on leaves or gravel downhill backwards, the abs
will release, even if your under 108 fully loaded <grin>

<snip>

After gettin' a long look at Len & Banker side by side, I have
a new appreciation for the solid stance of the new tire sizes.
Nothing wrong with the '08 & earlier, but the '09 & up is just
*solid*.
There's no help for the cleaning problem.  Pretty isn't always
a good idea.  Like some beautiful women, those damn wheels are just
high maintenance.  There are however, several manufacturers that make
90 deg. metal valve stems that will improve the tire inflation
problem.  I installed a set on my old '07, & those of you that have
your tire work done by "professionals" can take a set to 'em next tire
change............

How's the '10's (stock) performance over the '07 w/ the TM?  Idle,
