I'm buyin'.

I came across a Commodore SX-64, a shit load of cassettes and floppy's,
external diskette drive, and some spare regular 64 keyboards.

First, I'm looking for a users guide to purchase for the SX. The unit seems
to power up ok and the screen illuminates but I can't get anything to load.

Second, I really have no idea what I have here. One place says it's a $50
toy, another a near priceless highly sought after collector's item.

Anyway, if you're still sober, since I'm still buyin', and still reading,
I'd like to make this thing crunch some bits and bytes. It's kind of a cool
"portable" unit and reminds me of the "ruggedized pc's" we had in the '80's.
I did find access to a manual online but bein' an analog person locked in a
digital world I need a book in my hand to have a chance of figuring things
out. After of course, nothing else works.

Thanks for reading, this thing is intriguing and a definite trip back in
time.

Damn, I just took a like new Commodore 1902 monitor to Goodwill yesterday......

Those things booted an minimal operating system, you should see some stuff like
RAM available up in the upper left hand corner if I remember right. What's on
the disks you have???? if it's just data or pictures...you'll need to find the
program to use to open them.

I ran a dial up BBS on C64's here in Phoenix for years....they were fun.

Here's a couple places to go:

I'll bookmark 'em. Thanks.

Not to be picky, just a result of my ignorance on Commodores. This thing is
an SX-64  Executive Computer, supposed to be portable with a self-contained
keyboard and screen. Software wise, is it the same as a Commodore 64? What
kind of name or title would I look for in the cassettes and diskettes? Are
these programs the same thing as an operating system?

I'm familiar with the SX, didn't have one, but used them some. They are
essentially a C64 in a suitcase.....<sfsf>.

The system boots to the operating system, which is CBM (Commodore) Basic.

If you're looking for program names <sfsf>, I used to see one floating around
called "nudes".....when ya loaded/opened it, it went right ahead and formatted
your disk for ya.....

I pretty much only used my C64's to run the BBS on (I wrote/modified most of my
own BBS software back then), or I used it to play Zork. Was cleaning house a
while back and found boxes of C64 stuff (disks, programs, etc.), threw it all
out.

Did the same with a lot of old PC software I had too, if it was on a 5 1/4
floppy, it went in the trash.

Mine might end up there but it's kinda fun to mess around with.
