Ticketing red light runners is standard practice in many big
cities, but Chicago is considering doing one better and scanning every
car going by for up to date insurance.

Our systems here in Arizona are getting setup to not only snap your picture if
you're speeding or running a red light, but they will also (in real time) scan
to see if you're plate returns outstanding warrants.

I don't see a problem with it.......

If it's illegal to operate a vehicle without insurance, giving "big brother" a
mechanism to verify that is a good thing.

I'd be very wary though about how else they use collected data, not a big fan of
grocery stores doing the same data collection with those damned little club
cards, etc.

But I swear.....I don't wear a tinfoil hat.......

So...it's your job or my job to make sure folks have insurance on their
vehicles??

You don't care how high your premiums go do ya.......

I don't know why people won't take responsibility for themselves, so the gubmint
has to step in.......

I'm not able to answer these questions so I've referred them to my
congressman.  I pay him a lot of money to do my thinking for me.
