My Ultra had about 90k Km before it was bored out to 95ci and fitted
with gear-driven Woods cams. Then it went down at speed and sustained
considerable rash after which I got it through an insurance settlement.
My bike wrench gave it a really thorough 30,000 mile inspection/
service, replacing steering bearings and other parts. I also had
a Power Commander III installed.
Now it runs smoothly and, seemingly, reliably, without complaint.
In fact it's like an old car such as a Plymouth Valiant in which
all the parts have well worn in together and feels like it'll run
that way forever. Of course that's not really true, but I wonder
how long this thing will go before I'll need another major
service. 30,000 miles I suppose.
And after that? What happens to old Harleys, do they keep on getting
rebuilt, over and over, or perhaps end up in museums or out in
a farmer's field in Kansas, leaning against a fence half covered
in snow.
I thought of trading it in for something real purdy, like this...

...but it runs so well (nearly 100 ft-lbs torque) I don't like the idea
of letting it go and starting over on expensive motor upgrades
to another machine.

Yep. Where's the fence and I'll go 'shopping' for parts.

Chevrolet & Harley! There's a world of people making an industry out of
keepin' the old ones on the road. Somewhere, you can buy or have built any part
any of them ever had in 'em.
Choice is yours, but if you're happy with what you got why would you
start over? Do like some of us do........ride the one you like till you have
some spare cash, then buy the next one. Then you have two to ride......8^)
Oh yeah, if you find any leanin' against fence posts in Kansas, ping
me...............
