Shirley -- a round for the house, please.
Got the swingarm installed, finally. Earlier troubles
(detailed in the "Timing is everything..." thread) were
resolved by the purchase of new cleveblocs from H-D.
Special ordered, of course.
This was after trying a replacement pivot shaft from
H-D. Special ordered, of course. The H-D replacement
shaft was the same OD as the stock shaft, as well as
the earlier replacement shaft that I had tried. So, that's
three shafts all the same OD and each too large for the
ID of the Sta-Bo bushings. Out with the Sta-Bos.
OEM cleveblocs pressed right in, no problem. Swingarm
slipped right onto the transmission, not problem. OEM
pivot shaft slipped through the cleveblocs and transmission
mount, with new rubber mounts for the frame, no problem
(no hammer required). Mounting brackets bolted to the
frame and everything torqued to spec, no problem.
And now my swingarm, mounted, happily swings up and
down, no problem.
Beats me. Maybe the stock shafts on newer than my
'88 have a smaller OD to work with the Sta-Bo bushings,
and the replacement shafts are all larger. Whatever.
That's money wasted and another extended delay to
the rebuild. Butt hey, that's the way it goes sometimes.
I can finally mount the wheels and line-up the drivetrain.
She'll be a roller by the end of the weekend!

I gotta think somethin' has changed at Sta-Bo, new owner? Are you
positive you got th' originals, not th' knock-off's in th' V-Twin
catalog?

They are Sta-Bo's, for sure. Paperwork in the box
makes it clear. I know you had good luck with yours.
Baggers may use a different pivot shaft from FXR's
post-1990, but it's the same part number up until then.
I did talk to Sta-Bo. The guy measured what he
had in his shop to the same ID as mine. His pivot
shafts were smaller.

Everyone I've recommended them to had similar results as mine. You're
th' first caveat. Gonna have to revisit my backing of that product.
I do appreciate th' feedback <clink>.

Mine were the same. I worked mine with a brake cylinder hone to get a
slip fit.
