Power's back on after an 18 hr hiatus, wet-basement-cleanup guys are showing
up tomorrow, the mondo-big-assed, whole-house generator guys will be here
next week. If ya gotta have a sump pump ya gotta be able to keep it runnin'.
Anyhoo, if I can get out of the woods by Thur night/Fri ayem I might just
make Smiley's. Or not.....

Two words: Honda generator.
Cheap and effective when the power goes out. Mine will run the
furnace, pump and the fridge.

I have one, too. It runs two fridges, furnace, pump, entertainment
center and a boatload of lights. Coffee pot, microwave, all the
essentials. 12 hours on one fillup of 6 gallons.
BUT, you have to put air in its tires, drag it's ass out of the
garage, set it up, plug in a brazillion extension cords, feed it
gasoline, and at least a couple of times a year break it out and get
it runnin' for 15 minutes or so. I keep it filled up full with a
double dose of Stabil, but in a couple of years I'll have to drain it
and fill it up again.
Yeah, I know, whine whine. But, if I had a whole-house natural gas
generator, there would be minimum effort on my part, and the company
comes by once a year and does the maintenance. (For a price, of
course.)
I'm probably OK, since everybody climbed all over AmerenUE's ass after
the third major power outtage last year, and they got off their
corporate butts and went around trimming trees like NorthWest
lumberjacks. We've had big wind storms and ice storms since, and no
massive power outtages yet. Knock on wood.

Naw, my neighbor's got the right idea..... only time he knows the power is
out is cuz he hears some noise from the back of the house. Can't run the A/C
and the electric stove & oven at the same time but that's his only
limitation. Blackout proof....... as long as Spunky Hussein doesn't target
the local natural gas lines.
