Years ago I trailered a (brand X) bike. Apparently I had the tie downs way
too tight because fork oil leaked out of the upper seals. Now I have to
trailer my FLSTC. Any ideas on how tight to make the tie downs in order to
suppoet the bike and not cause damage?

Tx

It wasn't the tie downs that caused your fork seals to leak.
If compression to the limit caused seals to leak you would have oil
leaks every time you bottomed the forks.

Pull the front suspension down tight.  You don't want slack in
any of the straps if the bike should bounce on a bump in the road.
Another choice is to block the frame, & strap tight enough to prevent
bouncing.

A hunk of 4x4, perhaps with a shim piece, under the frame cross member under
the tranny allows you to pull it down tight without totally compressing the
suspension. Tiedowns running straight down from the engine and bag guards
the same way H-D ships dressers in the box works well. Every dealer in the
world has a mountain of the short, ratcheting tiedowns dressers ship with,
they usually hand out 'em out gratis for the asking.  YMMV.

These are kinda handy for putting tiedowns where you want them.
