The National Guard has never been there. The former mayor of Myrtle
Beach requested them from the Governor but was turned down. That's
Myrtle Beach. Atlantic Beach is a ways north.
For reason. They aren't needed.

From the article

The Boulevard become a parking lot every weekend during the summer and
its always mixed with bikes, SUVs, sedans, buses, trucks, mopeds, etc.
Anyone who knows anything avoids the Boulevard after 10AM any weekend
after Memorial Day till September.
The worse by far traffic weekend is 4th of July. You don't see
increased police presence nor a 1-way traffic pattern on Ocean
Boulevard.

Maybe next year we can head to the sportbike vendors and give them a try
after HD. I did the following day this year. It was worth it. I now
understand why those boys use a full face helmet even if wearing shorts,
sneakers and a tank top.
