Turns out the green wire was broken behind the fuse box where it passes
through the fender. The red wire had the insulation worn off too. The
protective plastic sheeth had also failed.  I must have gotten unlucky and
measured voltage at a time when the wire just happened to be making contact.

All set now, I spliced it and learned yet more about my bike, which is
always a good thing.

Speaking of which, 30 weight (S-Eagle) fork oil (had PJ1 20w) cured the
harsh ride I was getting out of the front, and allowed me to properly adjust
the preload on the rear. Bike rides a bit stiff, but it _is_ the sport
version of the FXR, so that's not necessarily a bad thing. It absolutely
loves to go fast on the twisties now, and takes the bumps with sure response
(progressive springs and dampers inside). I may re-install the anti-dive air
system, but need a reservoir of some kind so that I'm not restricted to only
certain handle bars. I have pull back flat track bars on there now with mild
pullback risers, and I like them (fourth set of bars I tried).

Still working on seat height so that the mid controls are more natural for
my particular physiology. Right now the controls are too far forward, and
too high (or better stated, I'm too far back and too low in the seat). I put
a pad on the stock seat to raise me up a bit and forward as a test, and it
was much more comfortable with less missed shifts and better rear break
control. I'm contemplating sending the stock seat out for a Gel pack and
minor modification. Trying to keep the bike nearly stock, 'cuz I like stock
bikes. I get the sense that the FXRP Cop seat would be ideal, and the
footboards too, but I don't have that kind of cash at any one time to pick
'em up somewhere (Elvis's place has 'em), for a swap out.

Just bought a stock FXR engine guard/crash bar from Cycle Warehouse. Should
be here tomorrow, or the next day. I'm hoping to make use of if to create
some leg protection from the wind, cold, and the wet using a bra system or
such. Should complement the Plexifaring nicely. Riding from April through
November in New England demands better protection from the elements. After
that, I'm thinking about a full fender to replace the sport fender, for
better rain performance. The sport fender is useless for keeping the rain
off your feet and shins.

Bought a raffle ticket to win a Street Glide. I like the FXR, and I keep
improving it's comfort for touring, but after renting the Road King out of
Denver, CO to cruise through RMNP, I knew then and there I wanted an FLH.

If you were interested enough to read all that (and even if you just skipped
to the end), I've got this round.
