Trademarks.

Copyrights protect content and creative works. They allow Disney to
create "standard" versions of characters from Grimms fairy tales and get
the cops to arrest anyone who dresses up like them. But anyone who makes
a costume of some other interpretation of them pretty much gets ignored.
("That's not Snow White!")

Trademarks are protections for logos and symbols associated with
products and services. For instance the Apple symbol that Apple, Inc.
uses on their computers and iPods, the Texaco Star, and the "Indian"
motorcycle logo.

Corporations re *required* by the law to protect their trademarks. If
you own a trademark and don't defend it the first time it gets
infringed, then you basically lose it because the next time, the judge
will ask, how come you didn't protect it that other time? So Indian had
better go after them...

Well ... there is the assumption that FDNY and their other clients gave
them permission to use the logos on those sculptures that looks sort of
like motorcycles.

I think that when you buy a jock strap with the FDNY or NYPD logo on it,
those agencies do get the money. That way when you get the support you
need, so do they.

Wrong.  Simply mentioning a trademarked name, or using an item
with that trademark on it ( assuming the item was licensed when
manufactured to sue it ), is not  'violation'.  Falsley claiming it as
YOURS , is.

I'm suprised you had the balls to mention it.

Sheesh.  You do realize that most (perhaps all) OCC bikes you see on TV are
commissioned?  In other words John Deere paid to have a bike built, same
with Snap-On, etc....

Logos / Trademarks are not an issue.  But the crappy build quality....

You wanna laugh, go check out the specs on their 'OCC
production ' bikes on their website - nothing but bolt-ons from every
company under the sun, with an OCC sticker on the ass.  I guess that
makes it an 'OCC custom'.  Pretty scary thinking about heading down
the road on one of those things, the 'Paul Jr engineering approved by
Sr'.  Geez.
