If drinking will loosen the tongues of those in the know, I'll pull
the tap myself. Hell, put everyone’s next round on me.
2002 FLHT. I installed new cams with gears. Got ‘er all reassembled
and left out the spark plugs and wound it up a bit to see if the oil
pressure would come up. No oil pressure indicated on the gauge. Nada.
Figured the assembly lube would allow me to fire it up for a second.
Did so. No oil pressure indicated and it sounded like the gates of
hell swung open when it started. Shut her down fast. The noise kinda
backed up what the gauge was telling me.
Did you use new lifters? If so they're gonna rattle for a while even if
everything else is right. Noisy lifters won't hurt a thing and nothing else
will make a sound till it's been without oil for a good while, then it's too
late. I'd get the parts manual and double check the pump assembly order.
I'd also double check the placement of the pump to engine case o-ring (the
nickel sized one on the left side of the pump where it meets the case). You
did put some heavy oil in the pump before installing it, didn't you?
