Thanks, Jinks, that was exactly the kind of input I was looking for. I
know I should try a few different bikes, my problem is, I'll want all of
them. :)  I guess if I decide that I might like the bigger front end,
I'll try it to make sure I like it significantly more. If I decide to
stick with the WG I won't try a bigger bike, cause it'll just give me
another multi-thousand dollar toy to want. :)  I have always favored the
rake and styling of the WG, but sometimes it feels like a little bike
when I get on it -- like I can just throw it around the road (and I'm a
med frame 5'5 woman, not overweight, but all the years in the dirt
really builds a strong sense of balance). At those times I feel like a
bigger bike would be fun, but I also don't want to reduce my lean
angles. I like a bit of being able to throw a bike into a curve.

I have awhile to decide and you've given me something to ponder... I
think I'm leaning towards sticking with the WG. It probably suits my
riding style better. Maybe a bigger front end would be good for a
secondary bike. (Time to go make more money.)

Oooooooooh what you just said. Secondary bike? You are standing right on the
edge of a multi bike cliff. You will wake up one morning wondering where did
all these bikes come from and where did I get the blue one over in the
corner?

Heh heh. Before I rode a Harley I had eight motorcycles... of course
that's easy to do with Japanese bikes. I couldn't seem to let go of the
bike I'd been riding, and would just get a bigger one and keep the other
one(s) to loan out to people. When I got the Shovel I got rid of all the
Jap bikes b/c I knew I would never ride them again, (except for my dirt
bike, of course). Now I want a fleet again, but it ain't so easy at
10-15 grand a pop. I'd like to keep my Shovel when I get the new bike,
for example. Which is why I'm waiting cause I hope in a year or so I'll
be able to afford to do that... then one at a time afterwards. ;) And
before ya know it...

My wife's got an '85 Superglide, which(aside from the evo motor)is
about the same as your bike.
She's been riding for near on 40 years, so she's no newbie and
recently she was looking at switching to a touring bike.
After much discussion she decided not to, because she's worried that
she'll have a tough time handling it not when she's riding, but while
getting it in and out of the shop or trying to move it around in a
parking lot.
The day after she made the decision, I almost dropped mine backing out
of the shop, and I began to see that maybe that 250-300 extra pounds
might not be the way for her to go.

And this is the heart of the matter for me, because I like canyon riding
but I have to take really screwed up, massive, partly-in-ruins,
conjested freeways with screwy drivers to get there. (I live in L.A....
so think Harbor Fwy through downtown LA to get out to the Glendale
freeway and eventually to Mt Wilson and the Angeles National Forest.) I
guess I need to compromise either on the freeway or in the canyon unless
I wanna start trailering my bike to "where my ride begins," b/c I don't
consider the freeway part of the ride, but a necessary evil to get
there.
