Plastic is on the bar, so order your favorite beverage (do they serve any
food here?) and drink up.
The gas gauge on my '99 FLHTCI hasn't been reliable for a number of seasons
now- just keeps getting worse with each year. This I don't mind. I just
keep track of the miles since the last fill up and then stop for gas if the
reserve light comes on (sometimes my mileage calculations are a little off).
Until now the reserve light has always proven itself to be dead on accurate-
comes on with just over a gallon remaining. However, now the reserve light
is coming on when I have a half tank left. (5 gallon tank.) I didn't ride
much last year, which may be the cause of my problem. But I'm wondering how
extensive the repair is for this kind of malfunction?
Thanks,
Al

just do like you did before bikes had a gas gauge....stop every
hunnerd miles or so and fill it up, and if the little light is
bothering you, put a piece of black electrical tape over it.

That's what trip meters are for . I try to stop for gas about every 175-200
miles .

Try it on a Twin Cam. On the 88 I had a low MPG of 24 and a high of 43. Trip
ain't worth shit if the consumption is erratic.

My lowest so far is around 35 , which is 175 miles with a 5 gallon tank ...
and the only time it's that low is during cold weather when I warm it up on
the enricher and do short runs around town . When I'm on the road , I
generally get 42-46 , which is easily within the 200 mile range . BTW, I
have working gas guage too , but rarely rely on it .
When I can get gas w/out ethanol I get 48-50 on the road ...
YMMV , yada yada .
