Time to splice the main brace - all hands on deck
for a tot of grog. It's cold and damp here in
the Pacific nor'west, and my scoot sat riderless
in the driveway for long weeks due to slushy,
slippery snow. It's normally parked behind an old
dilapidated utility trailer to hide it from
public view; getting it out takes some backing
and filling which was impossible in the snow
and ice. I could barely even get my mini-hog
on the road.

Anyway the sun shone briefly yesterday for
a rare appearance; the temperature was mild
and I managed to clear a path out to the street
with a snow shovel and a wrecking bar to break
up the ice.

Taking off the cover I found grunge on the chrome
and green mold growing in the trunk. Clearly
La Vieja Dama Magnífica felt neglected and unhappy.

After a boost from my van's battery it finally
fired up; that familiar symphony from my duals
sounding like something out of World War II
(must be why so many ex-Air Force servicemen
became bikers in the late 40's).

It's only a few miles to the shop where I
took it for storage, but even a short ride
is a ride, and soon I was

Rolling along past houses, farms and fields.
Passing towns that have no name,
Freight yards full of old rail men,
The graveyards of the rusted automobiles...

I wanna ride, I wanna ride, shit, it's freezing rain outside and I
wanna ride. You're breaking my heart Sean, but thanks for sharing
anyway.

Here's a flask of Jack D, just for you.

Thanks kindly; I'm chilled to the bone from
working out in the freezing rain today
trying to fix my flat deck trailer (it got
damaged in a freaky windstorm a few weeks ago).

Since it wasn't operational I didn't have
a chance to try out my loading-Harley-on-
trailer-with-jacks-and-timbers scheme.

Then came that rumble way down in the ground
And then smoke and gas belched out of that mine
Everybody knew it was the end of the line for Big John
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John..."

I haven't even made it out to the garage where the bike is stored.
I'd take that short ride in an instant but there is no chance until
March at least and probably more like April.
