Drinks.

I was driving to work the other day and noticed that the windshield was
crooked, it seemed to be leaning back towards me more on one side. Once I
pulled off the highway and there wasn't that constant wind pushing hard
against it I noticed that the right hand clamp (the windshield is attached
to the handle bars by two plastic clamps with bolts running through each
side) was loose. turns out one of the bolts connecting the two sides of the
clamps together had snapped. On the highway the windshield was pinned back
against the mirror stem and didn't move, on the slower roads it moved around
quite a bit with every bump. When I got home I started to disconnect the
other side, since I didn't like the prospect of heading down the highway and
having the other side go and having the edge of the windshield lodged into
my neck. I put a little muscle into it and snapped the same bolt on the
other clamp, so now I have two clamps with broken bolts sitting in them,
they both broke about 1/8" inside the plastic plastic clamp, which will make
it difficult to cut a groove in the broken bolt in order to get a screw
driver in it to back it out.

I figured I could spend many hours of frustration trying to get the broken
part of the bolt out, and still have to find a suitable replacement bolt,
but I opted to spend a few minutes on the internet and then went to the
local jap dealer and ordered a pair of replacement clamps for $17.
Hopefully they're the right ones.

Thanks for the coffee.

That would suck. Glad you realized what was happening before it
happened.

If not, I'm betting you can fabricate something to make 'em work.

Shit, only thing I got goin' on my scoot is the ABS light is on all
the time since about a couple days ago. Guess I'll call the dealer,
since it's in warranty.

Crappy Russian bolts! When will you Canucks learn to buy real Merkun

It was an aftermarket generic windshield. I'm sure if I looked I could tell
you what Asian country it was built in. <g>

One time, back in the days, I had this chopped out Triumph. You know,
the kind with the 10" over springer fork kicked way out and the spear
head looking bolts through the springs. Driving down the road in
Phoenix one day and hit a pretty good sized chuckhole. One of those
spring bolts broke down at the base of the springs. This 8 or 9" long
piece of bolt(with the spearhead nut on top)and the top spring
actually flew over my head(only because I saw it coming and ducked).
Found the spring, but never did find that bolt.
