Shirley will be takin' orders on my card for awhile...it's un-washed too!
:-)
When the sad news came out that Agua was no longer with us, I was saddened,
less than those here who knew and loved him for so long, but prolly more
than might be expected. I'd only gotten to 'know' him, Diane and Ben from a
variety of posts from/about them and the occasional pic posted across the
street. I knew Allen's roots were here in Bristol, on the TN side, and the
Vols flag inside was no surprise.
When the arrangements were announced and I learned that visitation would be
less than 5 miles from my place, I somehow felt it right that I be there
after work that day. The Patriot Guard and flags were posted in front of
Weaver's and I first looked up their leader and thanked them for their
mission for Allen. The lines were long, out the door and down the steps,
and it became obvious that most were in line for Agua...fewer for the two
other rooms.
Allen's sister Rhonda and her husband were the first I spoke to on the way
in, then Ben, then Ben's wife. Diane was spending as much time with those
who approached as they seemed to need and she was kind enough to listen to
this total stranger mumbling about rmh, pencil glides and the Alps. She
told me they had often taken as many as 500 pictures on their rides, so she
had many ways to revive memories in the future. Thank you , Diane, for
being so nice to me.
After a few words with Allen's mother and father, I found my way back out
side to the porch. There, I noticed two or three familiar faces, from a
variety of pics on sites covering IRLs of yore...I decided to butt in and
mention this newsgroup. Sure enuff...Len, Sue and Steve introduced
themselves and we talked for a few minutes until I excused myself from them
and departed.
Later. I suddenly realized that most of that green stuff on the pant legs of
my work bibs was not splattered weeds from my trimmer...I'd been Slimed!!
