Shirley, everybody drinks on my tab for the next couple of hours. I'm
celebrating. Since I'm at home, I'll take a local Pale Ale.
My bike will get delivered in a coupla hours or so. There's salt
everywhere, about 5 inches of official global warming on the grassy
areas, snow flurries coming today and another 3-5 inches tomorrow, and
the shop's 15 miles away. So, I haven't even had a chance to ride it
yet, but from the dyno run printouts, I'm thinking I better hold on
tight. The covered trailer should pull up right about the time it
starts snowing again, dammit. Got the original parts stowed in my
attic. I did fire it up in the shop. It sounds mean. And at idle it
has this kinda lopey thing goin' on. I suspect I'll get real fond of
it.
Pics of the dyno runs across the street.

I prolly won't be able to resist a ride around the block, even if it
is snowing.

Saw the runs, looks like it was money well spent.

Thanks, George. It was actually a lot less money than I was quoted.
Just a little over $2K instead of the $2,500 they said it would be.
Turns out there were some parts that the book said I needed, that I
didn't actually need. Like instead of a whole kit, just a gasket. Or
something like that. Plus, the 20% discount on parts helped a lot. And
after all is said and done, they punch your card for every $25 you
spend, so I got over $100 to spend out in the boutique.
Looks like the snow didn't come, so when it gets here, I'm gonna
bundle up and head on out. There's salt here and there, but all the
roads are dry as a bone, so hopefully I can avoid getting any
splash-ups from the pavement, and it's finally 36 degrees, just barely
above freezing. I figure about 20 minutes oughtta do it. Right about
the time my silly grin freezes on my face, it'll be time to put her in
the front of the garage til next week and hope tomorrow's snowstorm
melts sometime.

Why modify it to ride it on the dynamometer, instead of the streets?
Even I rode my STOCK FLH when it was snowing.

Well, I had coffee instead. I'm so excited y'all can drink on my tab
for another hour or so, and I'll have that Pale Ale now, Shirley.

It did. Rode the bike for about 20 minutes. Stopped and put my ear
plugs in. Damn, it's loud without 'em. Rode another 20 minutes.
Started to snow. Topped off the gas tank and put her away for a few
days 'til the snow stops, the plows do their thing, and I get the
driveway shoveled. Again.
My buddy at work, who used to race cars in the '80's, looked at the
dyno and said you'd better hang on when you hit it. Good thing he said
that, 'cause if I twist the throttle in the first three gears the bike
jumps like it was shot out of a cannon. This is very different from
the way it ran stock. On the highway doing 55 or 60 in fifth gear,
somewhere between 2400-3000 rpm, opening the throttle wide gives a
good, strong pull 'til I hit 85 or so. Just what I wanted from these
mods. If I pop it down into 4th, I can hit 85 or 90 much faster, and
let everybody know I'm comin', too. In 6th gear running about 90, it
just purrs along like it could run that way all day long. It truly
feels like a completely different bike. The throttle response is
absolutely amazing. It reminds me a bit of when I did the Stage I to
my '05 Low Rider after a year of riding it stock. Except I didn't
upgrade the cam then. This is a much more improved bike, all of a
sudden. The sucker has attitude it didn't have before. I think it has
more power and performance than the Low Rider - 'course that was an 88
and this is a 96, so duh.
I still haven't stopped grinnin'. Maybe Mother Nature will be kind,
and tomorrow's snow won't come 'til evening, and I'll get a chance to
take her out for a longer spin. It's 34 degrees now, and if it weren't
snowing, I'd still be riding.
