I found the book, "Shop Class as Soulcraft - An Inquiry into the value of Work"
by Matthew Crawford, fascinating....written by a philosophy Phd who went back to
being a motorcycle mechanic. I kept thinking about how his concepts applied to
my more ephemeral world of software development.

You might want to read the NY Times article first, that was excerpted from the
book, to see if the author's ideas might interest you:

His description motorcycling, near the end of the book, I thought was eloquently
brilliant and poetic:

"People who ride motorcycles have gotten something right, and I want to put
myself in the service of it, this thing that we do, this kingly sport that is
like war made beautiful".

"This kingly sport that is like war made beautiful".  Isn't that just a
wonderful phrase? Best short description of riding I've ever read.

if you decide to read the whole book. Recommended if you have a taste for
philosophy, mixed with motorcycles and working with your hands.  In some
respects reminiscent of "Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", but without
the depressive overtones.

Imagine if there were more?
Thank the lord for that small blessing....
