Can someone tell me what size thread the timing cover normally has? I
just bought a 1987 FXR. It has the factory timing cover, the bottom
rivet is missing. Rather than re-reveting it, I'd like to drill and tap
it. I'm thinking 1/4-20, but I don't remember (I had a FXS before).
Thanks,
Dave

More likely it's 10-24 or 10-32 . Just a hair bigger than a 1/8" pop
rivet ...

Rivets top and bottom attach a faux timing cover to the real timing cover
underneath.
The real timing cover is retained by screws at 3 & 9 o'clock.
The MoCo does not trust you to set your own timing... :^)
