I know it's been hashed before but my google search has turned up somewhat
limited answers.
First, am I correct that you can only buy a D407 or D408 at a stealership?
If so and I don't want to buy at a stealership, should I go with American
Elite's for a rear replacement on the '09 Ultra? Avon Cobra's? It's a
180/65B-16. Best price I found on the AE's is $165 at jakewilson.com. I
read somewhere that the AE's are identical to the D407/408's except their
sold outside the stealerships.
I found a great indy ship that's been working on the YZ250 so figured I'd
just bring him the wheel, a tire and let 'em mount it for about $150
savings from the stealership.
Barkeep, set 'em up for the room.

Why is it that a couple of days ago when I googled for a tire Jake Wilson
was nowhere to be found ,today it's like every 2nd or 3rd link ??
Interesting , I bought a tire from JW yesterday , this morning I get spam
from their "offroad department" , Rocky Mountain ATV ?? And I just noticed
that they're in Utah ...

I would. R.E. put one on, don't think he's got any miles on it as he's busy
blowing engines. (at least he's leaving those seals alone)

Kinda sorta. Dunlop guys say it's the same compounds except a better tread
design, especially when wet. Blackwall only. Darn.

All the Indy shops around here quit doing this because
the profit isn't in mounting the tire, it's in selling the tire.
They kinda resent someone bringing a tire in from the
outside while they are struggling to stay in business.
Your Indy guy may be different, but...
If he sells them for a bit more than the on-line shop,
but less than the stealership's offering, it would
be good to consider buying the tire there so that he
might still be around in the future when you need
another tire mounted. Just a thought.

I just bought 2 tires from him for my YZ250 + servicing fork seals etc...
Total ran a little over $500.

He's the one who suggested I bring the wheel and tire in and it's NP for
him to replace it. FWIW, while I was there my wife picked up a pair of
motorcross pants for my 14 year old and the last time I was a week before
my friend who came with me bought a $125 jacket. I could be reading it
wrong but he seemed pretty pleased with the business I'm giving him and
suggested the money saving tire idea.
