Greetings all, for those in RMH, have one on me.
Planning a trip around the great lakes in a couple weeks. One of the
things we intend to do is take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry on Huron rather
than take the Trans Canada Highway around it. Does anyone have any
experience taking a bike on the boat? Their website says that they
provide tie downs and such so it seems like it should be no big deal.
I'm just wondering on the particulars of getting on and off, how much
lead time, etc.
Thanks,
Mark B

Usually bikes on first and off first. If there are no doors prepare for
possible wetness.

There is a door; the whole bow section lifts up. Unless it's a busy
weekend, an hour lead time is plenty.

Looks like if ya get priority passage you only need to be there 30 min
in advance of th' scheduled sailing. They also don't allow passengers
where th' vehicles are after they sail... so if ya's need somethin'
off th' bike, too bad.
We (Seattle area) have th' largest ferry system in th' country and
I've used them extensively over th' years. But I ain't ever seen a
ferry like that. Pretty cool how th' bow is hinged and raises up to
load/offload vehicles.
Th' fact that they have tie downs tells me th' water can be a little
rougher than what we get here in th' Puget Sound. Might wanna think
about tie down spots being accessable after ya get it all loaded up.
Soft ties make that a *much* easier job and don't take up shit fer
room. http://tinyurl.com/5e4p8m
