a friend of mine had a interesting yet scary story today,
he has a shop here and had one of his choppers parked outside, the
bike was facing his building pointed away from he sun, IOW's the back
of the bike was getting all the sun

well he has one of the Maltese Cross mirrors on it, and a King queen
seat on it. so all this and it just so happens that time of day and
the way the bars were turned and the correct distance from the mirror
to the seat,  that the mirror had turned the sun into a very narrow
point right on backrest of the seat about 4 inches long, he just
happened to have walked out front for a minute in time for the seat to
have been melted through the material and had just started burning up
the foam under it.....

talk about timing and cheap mirrors..........it could had been a
disaster

Yeah....could have been disasterous...good thing he caught it in
time....I was ON my bike when it caught fire.....just out for an afternoon
ride....long way from home, when I was comin around a corner and I felt a
lil warmth on my upper leg...looked down to see what was makin my leg so
toasty to find a small fire goin on.....of course had to pull over and put
the damn thing out...then realized the positive cable to the battery was
totally fried...the insulation was melted right off exposing bare
wire...yikes....so a couple guys ridin bye stopped to help me out and was on
my way a short time later....turns out the cause was a loose connection at
the terminal...musta vibrated loose along the way over time....

Had s similar kinda thing happen to my cage bout 30 years ago. Driving down
the road at dusk noticed a light under the dash, interior light switch
didn't make it go out, buddy took a closer look and said fire! 3 guys bailed
as soon as I got it stopped, someone called the fire brigade, 30 minutes
later nothing left but the burt out shell. As far as I could tell the fire
started in the engine compartment and started to come through the firewall
when we noticed it. That car was really hot for a period of time.
