"District Attorney John Morganelli wouldn't elaborate but said evidence
indicates alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Heaney [driver
of the truck going the wrong way that hit the group head on] is not in
police custody, Morganelli said. An investigation is continuing and
charges against Heaney are "likely," Morganelli said.
How odd. If they think he was drunk, why isn't he in custody, let alone
charged? I hope they at least took a sobriety/blood test first.

here it is, When police arrived, Courtis said, Heaney identified himself as a
former police officer. He retired on disability in April 2010 from the
Plainfield (N.J.) Police Department, according to online records of the New
Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits.
if there was alcohol involved, they should had arrested him at the scene, or
hospital if he was transported for injuries, just like any one else

some have said he was a cop, if so, they stick together even when one is wrong
and a has been...
I feel for the family's and this guy is going to have a hell of a rotten life
now, I wish that on no one!

I'm guessing the families of the victims wish it on him and rightfully so.
I don't agree with you. If the driver was drunk, it was a 100% completely
avoidable homocide. He sacrificed the lives of guys just like you & me with
a carefree glass to mouth to keys. And worse, the guy is an ex-cop and by
superficial review, rec'd special treatment and will likely pay a minimal
penalty though hopefully his entire pension and possessions goes to the
vics families.

ok schmoe, where the fuck did I ever say the driver was not 100% at fault?
(WHICH BTW an accident is not always 100% avoidable even if the driver is dui,
which to be clear for you, I am not saying about this accident)
or do mean you actually wish this to happen to someone? anyone? hell there
are a few people I really can not stand and I would never wish them to be in
the position of that ex-cop or the victims!
or are you saying you don't feel for the family's?

it wont happen that way, there is insurance for that, and if he has little
ins, and if they don't like the ins company max payment benefit, then they can
decline payment from ins and go after him directly, then in most states if he
doesn;t have cash laying around, he can file bankruptcy and walk away from it
all financially - it sucks but that is how the laws are....
