Barkeep, I don't know if anyone else is in this place yet but keep my tab
open for anyone that happens to drop in and have one for yourself. For the
first time in my years here I think I'd better have a black coffee, at least
that's what I'd order if I were back home I don't know what you'd say here,
it's time to get on the road for the morning.
We left the Silver Horn Motor Inn in Kellogg, Idaho and hoped to make a
motel in Red Lodge, Montana by the end of the day so that we were well
placed to go over Beartooth Pass and down to Jackson Hole. Well that was
the idea and today we didn't encounter anyone who needed our help, but I
thought that I would show Mary a nice little town by the side of I-90.
The town is called Alberton, Montana, take jct 77 to get to it. I noticed
it on my way to the island on the West coast, I'm thought that there was a
sign saying "Rest Area", a facility that I needed. I soon realised that it
was just a small town. I asked at the Ghost Rails Inn for directions to the
local public restroom and a very pleasant fellow directed me to said place.
He also said to come and stay next time I was passing. Well we weren't
ready to stop for the night it was only just after 13:00 but I wanted Mary
to see the place. We pulled up outside the Inn and went in to ask if they
served coffee. The answer surprised us... "No but why don't you stay for a
coffee anyway". I offered to pay and the proprietor refused the offer. We
sat down in the lounge area and Tom brought us both coffee, he had one
himself and we were soon joined by his wife Grace who brought some cookies
for us. Outstanding!!!
They have owned the Inn for about a year and a half, and have decorated each
of the 9 bedrooms differently, each one having it's own theme and a quilt
made by Grace. We were given a tour of the whole Inn, a very nice place it
is and the rates aren't too bad and breakfast is included. Must have been
there for around an hour!
Back on I-90 we continued on our way. At a gas/food stop we began looking
for places to stay and realised that Red Lodge was booked up so considered
places as far away as Billings before finally getting a room at a Super 8 in
Big Timber, Montana. It was a well run clean motel, did the job for us. We
dined in a nearby restaurant that I had lunched in on the way west.
We hadn't got to our target destination but we were looking forward to
getting off I-90 and up into the mountains before dropping down to see some
friends in Jackson Hole.
Cheers
