A round for everyone, coffee for me.
So I'm pulling out of the gas station this morning, middle of rush
hour, and there's heavy traffic so I have to wait at the curb for a
break in the crowd in order to turn right into traffic. The station
is right at the stop light so the crowd is stopped dead waiting for
the light to change.
One lane over is a biker. Looks like the bike started life as an
early nineties fatboy. Solid wheels, FL front end, floorboards. He's
added ape hangers and shorty drag pipes which are surprisingly not all
that loud. I'm looking over the bike, and his head turns towards me.
I nod.
He remains motionless, expression stony.
Well hell, I try to acknowledge fellow bikers, but some don't feel the
need to return the gesture (see plethora of "wave or not wave" threads
in years past) so it's not that big of a thing, but he seems
particularly unfriendly for some reason.
Then, with a slight chill, I realize that I'm in the cage today due to
logistics issues (a friend I have to take to lunch who refuses to ride
on the back of Noisy Glide. I know I know, I need better friends).
Furthermore, I'm not in my truck.
I'm in my daughter's car.
The silver beetle.
With the clown head on the antenna.
The dancing cow on the dashboard
The leather jacket with pink highlights draped over the rear seat.
And the vanity plate with a froo froo girls name.
Well, in his place I wouldn't nod back to me either.
We both sat in uncomfortable silence until the light changed. He took
off with a roar and I waited a bit before venturing out into traffic.
Life is just too complicated sometimes.

LOL! Sometimes "muscle memory" isn't all it's cracked up to
be........8^)
Linda & I go for a bicycle ride nearly every morning. I'll be
huffin' & puffin' along at all of 8 to 10 mph when someone on a Harley
passes goin' the other way. Most times I have to remind myself not go
give 'em the low biker wave~ Then again "muscle memory" kicks in
'bout 3 times a week, & if I slow while makin' a turn onto a different
street I just naturally pull the clutch........then I realize that's
the front brake! Haven't gone over the handlebars yet, but there's
always tomorrow..........

Funny stuff Jinks. A nice sweaty spill into road corner sand - you'll
come up looking like a powdered donut.
I bet bicycling makes you wish for cooler weather more than motorcycling
too.

Not around here. Real road rash. I'm too old to be peddeling
in soft sand.

Up till this week the heat was our biggest problem, but we've
gotten a taste of what the fall has in store for us..........it's
cooler, but we're still old.........8^(

Thought you were gonna say you realized you had your chaps, vest and full
face helmet on. ;)
