Well, I decided I didn't like all those Molex connectors in the
headlight of the FXR...It used to look like this:

And since I wanted to upgrade to newer style hand controls, I
swapped everything over (except the one big connector going into the
headlight bucket) to newer Deutsch style connectors (wires that are
still disconnected are for turn signals.  Explanation further down):

And, while I'm there, might as well clean up the bars, drill them,
and run the wires internally.  Also cut off the nipple for the old air
fork stuff:

Also made a custom endcap (if you want to call it that) for where
the shrader valve used to go.  The picture is blurry, but it's
actually a Canadian penny:

Only thing left:  Unfortunately, the new switch assemblies feed a
hot to one side of the turn signal switches, then send that to the
turn signal module.  That is not how the old mechanical turn signal
works (it feeds hot to one side of the flasher, then the other goes to both
switches, and the other side of the switches is the turn signals
themselves).  I can either yank all the wiring back out, strip the
conduit, unsolder where the hot is on those new switches and run a new
wire to user the old flasher...

...or I can order a Badlands turn signal module for 70 bucks or so
that will work with the new switches and actually give me cancelling
turn signals and hazards.

I went with plan B!  Still waiting for it.

    So far, total cost:

Two used (but new looking) switch housing assemblies complete with
the Deutsch connectors and screws:  $20 a piece at my local indie shop
where a former coworker now works.

A new-style dual-disk master cylinder:  Free from Hoppy (thanks
again, appears to be holding pressure just fine.)

Clutch perch and clamp:  Can't remember...maybe $20 from Drag
Specialties.

Nostalgic grips:  $120 from H-D, or $30 from Drag.  They look
exactly the same.  I went with Drag.

Black levers:  Another $30 or so from Drag.  Once again, look
exactly the same as the H-D ones.

Throttle cables (need the new style push-in ones, not the old
screw-ins I had):  Can't remember....maybe $40 or so?

Deutsch Connector builder's kit:  $60.  Motorcycle parts catalogs
want waaaay more for this, but I got it at an auto parts place.  I
could have just gotten the two connectors I wanted, but it's nice to
have extras.

New clutch cable:  The only one I didn't actually need for the
conversion, but my old one had a tiny hole near the tranny door that
caused a minor leak.  Can't recall what that was from Barnett, but not
much.

Hours of shitty drilling and grinding (blech) and peaceful wiring
(much better) in the shop:  Priceless.

So far, this summer:  Rebuilt entire front end with Racetech
cartridge emulators and springs, spherical bearings in the swingarm
along with Snag Whatchamacalit sleeves in the rubber isolators, new
handlebar switches.  Weather has been crap, as has my time this
summer, so riding has been...minimal to say the least.

You're a skinny bugger but you would certainly be welcome on the West
Coast FatBoy Tour as well.

You talkin' to *me*... oh, no... you meant Phil.
Been a long time since anyone called me skinny.
Actually, 1978 to tell the truth.  190lbs.

But I could be on the West Coast sometime this year.
