Fellas and ladies, tab is open, order up.
I have a chance to pick up a cheap rolling frame form an older
Sportster 1200. I'd like to do something fun with it, like make a
version of the "Billy Bike" out of it. I know the Billy Bike wasn't a
Sporty, but that's all I'll have to work with. Is it possible/feasible
to put a Wide Glide or similar front end on it? Also, will something
other than a Sporty motor fit in it? That's not a big deal, but just
for info in case I can get a deal on something other than a 1200.
Thanks in advance.

Wide glide can be fit to the chassis, but you won't like it.
The only other engine that will fit the chassis is a K model.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

The forks are no problem.
Just fit the appropriate triple trees.
The motor would be a much tougher item to fit.
Much.

The WG front end will fit. I swapped Sporty forks for WG a couple of
years ago on my Panhead.
