Hi all, my cards out on the table so help yourselves to the beverage
of your choice.
So... Mr Bike (2000 FXDWG), in the process of changing the belt
drive. This is taking place over a number of days, as and when I can
find the time in the evenings. Referring to the service manual, I do
a little work in the evening then realise that I need to visit my
local tool shop on the way to work the next morning.
My question is: How do I get the two starter mounting bolts out. On
page 6-3 of the manual it says Primary Chaincase Housing - Removal -
"3. Remove the starter jackshaft and two starter mounting bolts. See
5.9 STARTER JACKSHAFT." So I turn to 5.9 Starter Jackshaft and it
only mentions one bolt - the jackshaft bolt. Eventually, courtesy of
www.harleyhog.co.uk I realise that the two bolts are accessed from the
other side of the bike and are f...ing difficult to get too. A normal
allen key won't do the job, does anyone have any pointers/words of
wisdom... before I attack the bastids with an impact driver.
Cheers all

Yep. I use a 1/4" drive ratchet with an allen driver and two 6"
extensions. And I swear a lot. One of them is barely visible from the
back of the bike looking between the swingarm and the primary case. The
other one can almost be seen looking along the front side of the
starter. AFAIK, you pretty much have to do it by touch.
Hope this helps.

Just to add to this excellent advice, it will make your job easier if you
remove the battery first to get it out of your way.
cheers
