It dawned bright and warm, so about 11 AM I saddles up to hit the road.
Today's purpose: Ride a motorcycle in the state of South Carolina, a
state I had never even been in before, to the best of my recollection.
The route: Leave Athens, TN on TN 30, ride up the Hiawassee River until
30 turns and goes over the mountain to US 64, take US 64 up the Ocoee
River and into North Carolina. In Hayesville, NC, take NC 69 south to
US 76 in Georgia. Take US 76 east into South Carolina and turn north on
SC 183 in Westminster, SC. In Walhalla, SC, turn onto SC 28, take that
to GA 28, take that to NC 28, take that to US 129. Then the Tail of the
Dragon at Deal's Gap, after which it's 40 miles back to Athens. 328
miles, 9 hours total, all twisty.

I didn't take many pictures, too busy riding. Here's a few:
Rafters getting ready to ride the Ocoee (site of the 1996 Olympic
Whitewater competition)

Much later, the Fontana Reservoir:

At The Overlook on The Tail of the Dragon:

There are lots of great roads in this area, and lots of motorcycles on
them. My floorboards will never be the same.

64 is really sweet.

28 is even sweeter.
I really like the length of 28... it has switchbacks, sweepers,
everything...
and it's really long.
I'll be down at the Cabin in early July.
Let's see if we can get together, maybe drag Tom out....
Tom, have you been on the new 1600 yet?
Jinks gave it a thumbs up.
I don't think he's ready to trade down yet though.

I really like the part between Brevard and Franklin in North Carolina.

Yep, not many boring stretches for sure.

Sure, let me know when you're there.

It gets rave reviews, but it doesn't do for ma what the Harley does.

You weren't listenin'. Add to, not "trade for".
If you're plannin' on showin' George "Bob's", LMK. I'll help
if it's after the 4th.
Oh yeah, made it home from MAMMARY just before 4pm today. Had
a nice lunch/visit with Blair & Lori, & a boring drive home. Great to
see everyone again!
