My son is eight. Is there a decent place to go to buy used leather
jackets, preferably heavy-duty, for riding as a passenger? I hate to
drop a ton of money when he'll outgrow it in a year. (But I will if I
have to...)
Thanks!

Craigslist? Type "motorcycle jacket" in the search, you'll find a bunch.
Now look for small sizes. Maybe a woman's jacket, he'll never know the
difference unless you get him a pink one.
Look for not just leather, but textile jackets like Joe Rocket or
something.
I'm thirsty.

What you do is buy a large mans sized jacket now, and cut it down for him.
SAVE THE PARTS you cut away.
Then add-n-sew said parts together as he grows up to be an idiot like you!
