Shirley, set 'em up on my tab while I bother my friends with a few
questions and maybe a ramble or two. Top shelf for anybody who
replies, and a cold one irl at Roger's later. I'll even pour it for
ya!
I've been waiting to get a GPS until I found one that would work on my
bike, in the car, and maybe even hiking. I read some of the comments
across the street about the Zumo 550 and I'm very impressed. Only
question is, how hard will it be to install it on my '05 LowRider?
I've already got two pigtails coming off the battery, one for my
battery tender and one for my heated clothing, so I'm not afraid to
pop the seat and put more wiring on. But I'd need a way to keep it
away from all the hot parts and still get it on the bars. Guess I
could maybe zip tie it to one of the cables - clutch cable rings a
bell, since it'll probably get mounted to the clutch bracket anyway.
Then, I'd want the XM radio antenna as well. I already have XM in two
cars, so the monthly cost for another one would only be $6.95. And I'm
thinking I could use my current Koss foam ear buds that I got from
RiderWearhouse, because I think I read it has a mini-stereo out. For
phone stuff, I was wondering if anybody had a line on a stereo
BlueTooth headset so I could get the XM and the directions and the
phone all playing through one set of stereo phones, with a microphone
so I can talk, too? Maybe that's too much to ask. I've read good
reviews of the Cardo Scala Rider, but I don't think it's stereo.
Finally, I've been thinking of trading my bike for a new Ultra
someday. It only has about 22,000 miles on it (yeah, I know, I'm a
slacker). The financing on the 105 Anniv. Ed. bikes is real attractive
at 1.05%, and my local dealer has 7 of them in stock. But, I kinda
like candy apple red. Buddy of mine wants to trade his Softail
Standard on one, also, but he thinks the anniv. ed. colors kinda make
the bike look like a Duracell battery.
So, I guess I'd like a GPS to use now on my LowRider, that would work
later on the new Ultra. And maybe somebody here could tell me if it'd
be more worthwhile, trade-in-wise, to get the Ultra now rather than
put another year and another 8,000 miles or so on the LR. With the
"recession" that's been going on, it almost seems like now is when the
deals are hot, but who can predict.
Shirley, another round for all my friends who've read this sorry
ramble.

The Zumo is a great unit & will work any of the ways you've described,
except for the bluetooth stereo. Zumo doesn't output stereo via bluetooth, but
the Scalla Rider set works great for GPS & phone connectivity.

Get the bagger & keep the LR.

Thanks - that's very good information. That being the case, as little
as I'd use the phone while riding, I'm thinking for now I'd forgo the
Scalla Rider set, and just use my stereo foam buds. Those should work
for the XM part and the GPS nav directions, too, I'm hoping.

There's an idea. Just need a bigger garage.
Thanks for the info. Shirleeeeeee...........

The audible directions from the Zumo interrupt the XM or MP3 feed from
the Zumo. The default setting is for the XM and MP3 audio to be 80%
of the direction audio. That's adjustable too.
