Anyone else have a air compressor in there shed, garage that won't start up
for shit in the winter because its to cold. Normally if I want to use my
compressor I have to heat my shed first.
Now before you say just another oil thread here me out LOL.
This summer I decided it was time to change my oil in my compressor. I
didn't feel like going after air compressor oil so I used the same 5-30
syntec full synthetic oil that I use in my cars, lawn mower, power washer
and generator. It was right there and handy so why not I've read so much on
oil I new in my mind it was OK to use it.
When it gets as cold as it was today I can figure on not being able to use
my compressor until I heat my shed up. I went out early this morning to
change the oil in my car, turned my shed light on and my air compressor
fired up, right now no grunt no tripping the breaker it ran a bit slower
than normal but it ran! I looked at the temp and it was 4 degrees in there,
13 out side it never would have fired up with out me babying the on off
switch or heating the shed first.
I was a skeptic at first about the better cold start stories for a car
engine but now I'm convinced. My compressor didn't even stutter!

I suspect that the 5W had much to do with that easier start.

I'm sure you have a valid point.
So the question I have is what is the weight of air compressor oil. I
never found it on the oil I used to use.

20 - 30 weight

My harbor freight jobbie calls for 30W non-detergent, IIRC. But I'm in
a relatively mild climate.
