Next round's on me.  This is probably a stupid question, so I might
have to get a couple rounds.

It looks like the previous owner of Noisy Glide (which is less noisy
now but the name kinda stuck) had done about one-half of a stage one
upgrade, replacing the mufflers but keeping the stock intake.  I am a
fan of K&N filters; had one on my Sporty and currently have one
installed in the F150.  I'd like to put one on the new bike but not
sure of the ramifications.  (2003 FLHTCUI)

Mind you, I'm not interested in one of those fair-weather-only
rain-suckers, just a good washable element in the existing air box.

On the carbureted Sportster, it's pretty straightforward -- up the
pilot jet from 42 to 45, bump up the main jet until the plugs look
right.  But I haven't a clue what needs to be done to a fuel injected
engine.  I did some research but got answers ranging from "just slap
it in" (which I don't believe) to replacing the computer (yikes!) and
having the bike dyno'd, which is way beyond what I had in mind.

So, keeping in mind I just want to replace the stock air filter, not
take the bike to a drag strip, what do I reasonably have to do to the
air/fuel system to make it work?  Are air cleaner modifications a
dealer-only thing now?

Thanks.

If the previous owner changed out the exhaust already then they likely
did the stage 1 flash to account for the change. That flash would have
included compensating for an upgraded air filter. I'd say change out
your filter to whatever you want and see how it runs. If it starts
running too hot or you start getting crappy mileage then you'll know
more changes to the ecm are needed.

WHEN  ahem  When i did my reinharts i asked the tech , they said i didn't
need the efi ecm flash until i did the stage 1  air breather kit . So i
waited
till  the money was around installed it myself drove it down their. they
said it
would be ok on one trip.  then Harley dealer did the stage 1 flash . no dyno
i think.

so just having the pipes may not mean you got the flash.

What did they charge you for the re-flash?
