I'm being told by the dealer that running different brands of tires
front and rear can be dangerous. This seems pretty far fetched to me.
Is there any real issue here, or are they just trying to sell me what
they carry?

Depends on who you talk to, many have run different brands on the 2 axles
with no problem. I prefer not only the same brand front n rear, I prefer the
same model. Some will tout consistent handling properties, others will tell
you it doesn't matter. ::::shrug:::::

It's your money and the dealer wants it. You decide.

BTW, musta missed your intro

My favorite is a Dunlop front and a Avon RoadRunner AM21 in the rear.
They have complementary shapes and the Avon has a solid band of rubber
in the center that slows tread wear (the tire loosing its shape).
The AM21 is not the best choice in the wet, but can also be lots of fun.
