I got a few of these labbott's lights in the can left, drink up. The
bottle of blantons next to the JD is open game too.

shitty picture, exhausted, don't feel like moving shit outta the way:
http://headofapin.net/~matt/fxr.jpg

will get some better ones later.

met the previous owner at "mikes famous" hd in delware (whaddadump),
'twas about a half way point for the two of us (2:05 from me, ~1:35 from
him)... figgered we could get away with some noise there at least....

looked at it, immediately noticed the crap wiring job. started it,
noticed the oil loss he claimed at less then 1qt/1000 miles was WAY
more, and questioned wether it was a good idea to ride it home (the
answer was probably NO). Typical rocker leak in a bad way, lines to the
heads leaked, pushrod tubes leaked, derby cover leaked, etcetc. Pretty
much every "normal" leak and then some. rear brake play was stupid
off. Someone put an expansion wingnut where the timing sight plug
shoulda been. Front break needing some pumping up. hmmmmmmm not the
"great rider" I was told....

Jumped on, went for a spin, noticed, just like my bud's 93 FXR in the
prior post-- another one pulling to the left! Figger'd fuggit, probably
wheels misaligned or something..... also a nice dent in the tank. GRR.
why these were absent in the picture & description i dunno....

...talked him down a small amount (it was already a bit low as most HDs
are right now), and proceded to drive home. Traffic on 95 and 70 was
fairly hairy, and I was a bit clentched most of the ride being A) on a
strange/unmaintained bike and B) new to ape hangers (w/no mirrors; but
been there done that).... When we stopped for gas, I was 1.5 qts low,
and discoverd I was also about out of gas (had the petcock on "RES" the
whole way; oops!!).

Anyway managed to make it home without dieing or motor exploding (thing
makes good power; 5 speed on a shovel is nice and gotta admit the ride
is way smoother then my 4 speed frame even in the shape this thing is
in)...

Wound down, had some beers, made some wings, rapped with my uncle (who
drove the truck back for me) and celebrated the new addition to the
family. Went to go look at it, and noticed the rear (tubed) tire was
friggin flat! SHIT! LUCKY I made it back without major catostrophy!!

Anywho, undoubtably will have a question here and there for you FXR and
late shovel x-perts as the weeks go on.... but, other then the oil
issues and lack of maintanence, I think this one is a keeper.. engine
runs strong and doesnt burn a drop (if any even got up there) and the
transmission shifts -way- better than my 4-speed... should be a really
fun ride!!

bottoms up!

Little bro to my '82 FLT. Once you get it squared away, you'll love
it. Conga-rats, SNPA's on me.

One of the little oil lines in the rats nest behind the primary cracked on
my shovel recently, spilled a ton out, one drop a time and I went down about
2 qts in a very short time. Look there.

Ya know, I noticed a bunch comin outta that clutch cover. Pretty sure this
thing still has the goofy vacuum oiling system in the primary. Gonna go
ahead and bypass that and put in the barnett wet/dry plates I have, and use
the starter gear as an oil slinger... always liked that mod; first thing i
do to them old shovels. Hadn't found a reason NOT to do it yet....

Thanks for the tip, will post some updates after I get my rear tire's tube
sorted out

If you can figure out how to do it on the 5 speed, let me know. I
followed the instructions somebody else gave me and got 100 yards
before it blew the cap off the oil tank.
