Some of ya may remember my singing the praises of Cruiserworks boots, keep
yer tootsies dry, comfy, warm when it's not and unhot when it is <er
something like that>. One of the primo features was a factory resole and
refurb job that was a flat 40 bux.

Them days are long gone, the folks that owned Cruiserworks wanted to get out
of the business and were gonna shut er down but sold out to an enthusiastic
customer a few years ago instead. The factory refurb job disappeared
although they offered contact info for a place called Resole America that
Hawgeye posted a favorable review on a while back.

I like these boots. Had the factory refurb job done a couple of times when
it was available and they've been treating me good for over 7 years. Only
thing I was less than ecstatic about were the soles. The factory sole's
touted anti-skid properties were crap IMO. Plus they didn't wear too well
for me.... a year or two and it was time for a resole. I wasn't too wild
about the low heel as well, I prefer something a little more prominent,
especially if I'm riding something with pegs instead of floorboards.

I've got an old pair of Caterpiller work boots I only wore when I dashed the
Cruiserworks off for refurb. They laced up which I didn't particularly
prefer but they have a hunky, lugged Vibram sole that doesn't slip and wears
like iron. I always thought if you could stick that sole on a pair of
Cruiserworks boots *then* you'd have something!

Last time the boots were due for a resole job I e-mailed Resole America and
inquired about the possibility of putting a lugged sole with more prominent
heel on my boots. I initially got a reply from a dimbulb who said she knew
for a fact they can only put an OEM sole on Cruiserworks boots. So naturally
I asked to talk to someone else. A guy by the name of John Bradley responded
and told me he could put any kind of sole I wanted on Cruiserworks boots and
said he had exactly what I was looking for. I dashed 'em off and hoped for
the best.

When the boots came back it wasn't the total refurb job that you used to
get. :::shrug::: However, the soles were perfect! Deep lugged,
workboot-style Vibram soles with the more prominent heel I was looking for.
Went out and stood up to my ankles in Lake Lair and no leaks. 55 bucks
delivered. Sweet :-)

I know these boots aren't gonna last forever and I expect I'll probably
replace 'em with same when the time comes. I think I'll have 'em sent
directly to Resole America for lugged soles before I even slip my tootsies
in 'em.

The key here  is to lace them like hiking boots.

Go OVER the eyelet and down to the tongue on the end, and on each pass.

You can literally open the boot with
a simple grip of the upper eyelets.
Tightening them is the same thing...
you can pull the laces from the top,
no need to grab the laces at each
eyelet to cinch them up.
