I'd had some phone calls with DM about hooking up with the tour for a short
ride-along while in my area. Fine. Got it all figgered out, and all I had to
do was put my right-hand handlebar controls back together, and go. well, I
actually succeeded in doing that, and set out to join up.
I'd been having some problems with my bike running not so good - chronicled
earlier, and got the local dealer to fix things. It turned out to be the cam
position indicator gizmo. Bike has been running like a dream since then.
Well, I got to Duluth - The Zenith City By The Unsalted Sea - and decided
gasoline would be a good idea. Shut down, gas up, restart and go. Hunh!
really hard starting, and a couple of ugly noises in the starting process
before I finally got the bike running. Hmmm...
I get about 25 miles farther on, in the fond du Lac reservation area, just
into Jay Cooke Park on hwy 210, and the engine suddenly just goes silent. No
sputter, no warning or premonition, just dead silence. That's really
interesting, I think to myself between cuss words. Pull off the road and
attempt to restart. nada. several times. wait about 15 minutes, and try again
- success1. I think the best thing I can do is turn around and head for home
right now. If the bike craps out again, I'll be closer to home and a shorter
tow.
I got home okay, and did a check on defect codes, getting code 41, crank
position sensor. Could be loose or it could be busted, I'll try to find out
inna next couple of days.
The good news is that our intrepid voyageurs made it through the Duluth
freeway interchanges onto the Bong Bridge and into Wisconsin on Hwy 2.

Sorry we missed you.
I just got home a couple of hours ago.
I sure enjoyed scraping my floorboards in that park.
