I was in the Battle Creek, Michigan HD dealership tonight. I was following
up on a pair of boots I ordered 24 days ago when they indicated they'd be
delivered in 7-10 days.
I looked at a bike with a sticker price of $38,000. I was assisted by a
salesman. I indicated to him that this was $34,000 more than I've paid for
my present bike. The salesman didn't have much more to say. I guess he
figured that I wouldn't be buying ...

Too funny! Guess he went looking for other meat.

The bike actually was very nice looking -- lots of chrome, a sound system,
etc. But it wasn't $38,000 good, IMHO.
The previous most expensive Harley I'd seen was $25,000, and that was last
year.
A motorcycle is just a darned lawnmower with wheels, and I expect them to be
priced accordingly.
Even the Japanese bikes are overpriced, as far as I'm concerned (but not by
much). $7,000 for a Suzuki GSX650F -- I think for $10,000 one can get a
cheap Hyundai or Kia (forget which), and the car has a lot more material
than the bike. I accept that with lower production volumes the price may be
higher ... so my feeling is that a $7,000 Japanese bike should go for $6,000
or so.
$38.000 is somewhere between 3 and 38 cars for me ...

Priced a John Deere lawnmower lately?
Funny, as my 1/2 the price MTD (built by Electrolux, no less) seems to
mow the lawn just as well. But it only had 1 cupholder. The John Deere
had 2...

I had to wait about 6 months for a pair of Teknic rain boots in my size.
By the time they finally came it, it was high summer. Not a drop of rain
has fallen since then.
How is this possible in the Third Millenium, now that computers and
other High Tech wizardry is all about us? If I were an ancient Greek
living on the island of Ithaca, the cask of Tyrian Purple dye that
I ordered from the Phoenicians would have been delivered long since.
