Got an email this morning with a link to the new HD models and while I
haven't looked at the site very carefully it looks like the 103 engine
is being made available in the Road and Ultra Glide trims.

No time to look at the new line up now. I have to meet The Cav early
this morning in Cochrane for our ride to Radium. At first glance I
think some of the prices are better and there are a few new models, or
variations of the old models in the mix.

The Road Glide Ultra is the first bike to tempt me since I bought the
Street Glide in the fall of 2005. ABS, 103 cubic inches, 6-gallon
tank, non-flexi-flyer frame, full size tour-pak, quiet 6th gear,
upgraded radio, h'mmmmm. Might have to test ride one of those bad
boys.

Twenty-two and a half grand (US), though. Dear God.

Nothing damages a machine more than an ignoramus with a manual, a
can-do attitude and a set of cheap tools

Yes, I suppose it will be significantly more expensive in the U.K.

I do not believe He set the msrp.
Compared to the "base" model Road Glide Custom at $19k, it has the 103
engine versus the 96, ABS versus none, the tourpak versus none, the
hard lowers versus none, and I'm sure other features that I've
missed. But those are the main upgrades, and they would cost
significantly more as individual upgrades.
However, when comparing that bike to equally priced new econobox
hatches, it almost seems quite a bargain.
..... note that I did say 'almost'.
I'll probably wait until they put out a 110ci model. Even that would
be unlikely to have the power and torque of my current SE103 engine.

You said it.

No, the Devil did that....

Well, comparing cars to bikes is never really a valid comparison, but as
you say....
I really ought to try a modern HD. The 1997 Road King, which I think was
the last HD I rode[1], was an absolutely awful creation. So bad, I
couldn't believe they let it out of the showroom. Lethal steering,
pathetic luggage capacity for a so-called super-tourer, a lack of power
and performance that made it a liability on autobahns... and then it
broke down[2].
They must have got better since then.
[1] Just remembered - about five years ago I was privileged to ride a
classic XR1000. One of the best and worst bikes I've ever known, like a
Kawasaki triple. Went like utter stink, sounded like Satan's own
earthquake, but really didn't like cornering.
[2] FI issues. It went into limp mode and had to be ridden 600 miles
home from Germany like that, at about 50mph[3].
[3] So not much slower than 'normal' cruising speed, really.
