I just bought an 82 v45 Honda magna.
I test drove it around a bit but never got into 5th gear.
It ran like a top!
I got it home and took it for a ride and going up a grade when I shifted
into 5th gear I notice clutch slippage and a chattering .
Coming back down the grade I noticed no noise or slippage.
I didn't ride it anymore.....I want to get new oil in it and go over it
before another test drive.
Any ideas?

Worn clutches always slip first in the highest gears. New set of plates
and some new springs. Easy fix and cheap too...

You may need a new clutch, but make sure the correct oil is in the
clutch bath. Some synthetics are not ment for clutch use and are too
"slick"

How fast were you going when you were in 5th? If you were too slow, you may
have experienced some driveline chatter.

Make sure you don't put oil in it that has "friction modifiers", they'll make
your clutch slip. Look at the oil bottle and get something that doesn't say
"energy conserving" on the seal somewhere on the label. 20-50 is a good grade
for Magna models. I've had a few. :)
