97 Honda VFR Seat Removal Question timem1 03-16-2007

Hi,

I am trying to replace the battery on my 97 VFR and unfortunately I
have no clue as to how to remove the seat.Can anyone please tell me
how to go about doing this?

On my '98 the seat release is just behind the helmet lock that's below the
right rear seat. You insert the key, turn it to the right to open the helmet
lock, and pull down on the little lever that's located between the lock and
the rear tire.

Alas, the '97 and the '99 are different models, but the seat release might
be similar.

Yeah, the '97 is similar. I sold mine a few years ago so I don't
remember all the details, but you do something similar - turn the
helmet lock key, and that either unlatches the seat by itself, or it
allows you to push a lever that unlatches the seat (don't remember
which). The latch is spring-loaded, so you have to keep pressure on it
to remove the seat. To remove the seat, grab it in the back, lift up a
little, and pull it towards the back. There is a tongue in the front
of the seat that slides underneath the tank, so that's why you have to
pull it back.
