At the risk of rocking the off topic boat I thought I’d share with
Reeky a bit of The Fall Fling our little motorcycle group held on
Saturday.

Alberta is a big Province and we don’t often get The Crude (The
Alberta Crude) together, so for the past five years or so we have held
a Spring and Fall Fling.  Yeah I know it’s a goofy name. I didn’t make
it up.

This fall, for a change of pace, we held the gig at a bar in Clive
Alberta.  Now Clive is a very small town.  I don’t know what the
population is but I’d be surprised if it was more than a thousand.  We
had been told Clive had a very popular biker bar called Roosters
Roadhouse and figured we’d check it out.

Before I get to talking about Roosters, first what an outstanding day
for a ride!  Considering it is October and factoring in the crappy
summer we have had, Saturday was possibly the best riding day we have
had all year.  Sunny, warm, bordering on hot, and no wind.  It was a
day made for motorcycles.

A few of us met at Timmies in Airdrie.  For those non Canadians,
Timmies is a popular donut and coffee shop in Canada.  After having a
double double (another Canadianism) we headed north on The Busy Lizzie
(Ah to hell with it. If you lived here you’d know what the Bushy
Lizzie is).  It was almost two hours of enjoying the sights of the
farmers harvesting their crops, the scents of freshly cut hay and the
thrill of being on the open road again. I also had an up close and
personal with Bambi on the way.  I think we saw each other at just
about the same time and Bambi was a little quicker than I in effecting
a high speed swerve.  It was a close one.  Too close.  I need to pay
better attention.

As for Roosters Roadhouse, have you ever seen the movie Dusk Til
Dawn?  George Clooney and his hostages end up taking refuge in this
really weird bar, that when the sun set, turned out to be a haven for
vampires..  After taking a look around Roosters I got to thinking I
want to be long gone before the sun went down. <g>

A few of the Crude had already settled in by the time we arrived and
dozens more showed up shortly after.  It was very cool to see old
friends; better yet, I think I made a couple of new ones.

We ate, we laughed and we had a beverage or two before we made our way
home.

Soichiro Honda almost had it right when he said you meet the nicest
people on a Honda.  Just swap out Honda and insert motorcycle and it
is bang on.

Anyway, great day.  We rode around 500 kms, missed Bambi and had a
hell of a good time.  Hard to believe winter is almost here.

So if you are still reading and want to see a few pictures here’s the
link.

Thanks for sharing, Don.   I didn't ride yesterday, but enjoyed fine,
criosp, cool fall weather at a nearby town's fall fair.

I am sure it was equally enjoyable.

It`s our Thanksgiving this weekend and I have Friday off.   I see way
too much, turkey and maybe a day or two on the road, in my future. ;-)
