A 24-year-old Powell woman died Sunday when the motorcycle she was a
passenger on blew a tire and went out of control in Jefferson County.

Miranda Beets died in the 4:15 p.m. crash in the westbound lanes of
Interstate 40, according to a report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol
Trooper John Woods.

Beets wore a helmet, Woods noted in his report, but the device was not
in compliance with safety regulations.

Beets was on a 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Robert
Carter, 53, of Clinton. Carter was wearing a helmet but also was
injured, according to Woods’ report. The extent of Carter’s injuries
was not available this morning.

Woods’ report states the couple was traveling on I-40 when the rear
tire went flat, causing Carter to lose control of the motorcycle.
Woods’ report did not specify exactly where in Jefferson County the
crash occurred.

More details as they develop online and in Tuesday’s News Sentinel.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,

Wow, it was John Wood that died in Greg's post.  Spooky, cue the music
for "Twilight Zone".

Bummer, I'm guessing it's not a good thing when you get a flat on a
motorcycle. Still I know a lot of people that have survived flat
tires.

Nope, Sorry. It doesn't count if there are more than 2 degrees of
separation. Did you know anybody who knew her?
