As I was parking my bike at the beach yesterday, I saw a city police
minivan. It was slowly rolling up the street by the line of diagonal
parked cars. It stopped right in front of my space. A woman got out of
the passenger seat with a ticket book. I asked the driver if the city
had run out of meter maid scooters for the weekend. He said, "See the
cameras up above?" There were cameras mounted on all 4 corners of the
roof. "They automatically read license plates and connect to our
database. It tells us if the car is stolen, has expired registration,
and so on."
Nifty.

And, of course, they never use the data for any other purpose. ;-)

You mean like for world domination or enslaving the U.S. or
something ?
My personal experiences say most law enforcement agencies are
a little short on the evil geniuses needed to get the job done.
