On Mar 17, 9:03 am, "I Can See Clearly Now!"

Lots of reasonable and cogent information in there.   Still, they
never addressed why they could not tell the SPEED television
commentators what was going on.

I like the fact that they owned up to the mistakes that they did make,
though.

I wondered why none of those Pro teams failed to notice the excess tire wear
during practice and select more durable compounds.  Well, now I know.  @#$%
NASCAR rules!  Can "standard" chassis, bodywork and restrictor plates be far
behind?  Are they already here?

Re: notifying speed tv - never attribute to malace that which can be
explained by simple simpleness.  Imagine the panic and chaos when told that
the tires they made everybody use were going to cause crashes.

From what I understand, they never had anything close to the race-time
track temperatures at any time during tire testing, practice, or
qualifying.  Remember that it was wear on the tires that caused them
to switch from superbikes to 600cc sportbikes for the Daytona 200 in
the first place.   And they were running the "traditional" 3.57 mile
Daytona motorcycle layout, which uses the east horseshoe and the east
banking in addition to the west banking, a layout that gives less time
for the tires to cool between trips to the banking than the "new-wave"
infield layout that runs the east horseshoe "backwards" and eliminates
the east banking entirely.

As far as a "spec" tire is concerned, I beleive (and someone will
quickly correct my if I am wrong) that both MotoGP and Formula 1, the
premier motorcycle and automobile roadracing series in the world, both
have space tire rules in effect now, so it's not really fair to refer
to a spec tire rule as a "NASCAR rule," if that is what you meant,
above.

If "space" tire means that all must use tires specified by the association
then I'm sorry to hear it.  I 'came up' believing that the purpose for
racing was to 'improve the breed' by encouraging competition (Second to
selling cars/bikes of course).  NASCAR eliminated that by requiring that all
cars be essentially the same to promote closer racing and thereby increase
spectator thrills.  Looks like everybody is going down the same path.  Can't
blame them, look where the $$$ are.  Oh well .....
