Yes, Uncle Ted appears to be in trouble. We're all waiting to see if
his son Ben gets called next. I think the bridges were more Rep Don
Young's territory than Ted, even though Ted backed him up. I think it
was Don who stuck in the earmarks into the Dept of Transportation
budget, but I could be wrong. "Bridge to Nowhere" is just a spin
anti-porkers used to derail the projects. All the bridges would have
served a purpose.
Even that Million Dollar Bridge that is out in the middle of nowhere
had a function. The long range goal was to use that bridge and an old
maintenance road to connect Cordova to the road belt. That was the
plan anyway.
The Knik Arm bridge would have eventually opened up a lot of
recreational property, making some people very wealthy.
Pork perhaps, but not really bridges to nowhere.
