I was in Upper New York State today, and I saw some Amish folk selling
baskets out of the back of a carriage, in the parking lot of a
WalMart, of all place. Anyway, it made me wonder what use the Amish
have for our money. Braces for the kids? Beer for the big barn
raising? Tickets for the upcoming Eminem Unplugged concert?

Crack. They love crack. Can't get enough of it. Helps them
make sense out of those outfits they wear.

They purchase goods and services like anyone else. They don't have medical
insurance. They pay cash for that too.

Interesting. I thought that they renounced our modern world
altogether.

They take the Scriptural admonition to not be unequally yoked with
unbelievers and apply it to being connected by power or telephone lines
with unbelievers (which I, personally, think is a misapplication of that
Scriptural principle and believe it is clear that it only applies to
situations where having two different worldviews present a problem in
decision-making in situations such as marriage and business partnerships
and the like), but they have no problem with using gas-powered
electricity generators for their own use or in riding in cars, using
telephones, etc. owned by other people.
