Interesting that the decision was made to go straight over it (a sound
decision) and bad thing still happened.

Also, good that the bike stayed upright and that traffic stopped.  That
could have turned out worse on a freeway.

I load (with a forklift) flatbed trailers every day. I'm not surprised
sometimes an unused strap comes lose and unwinds off the spool.

Sometimes the ratchet dogs don't drop down and engage the teeth, and
the strap can unwind completely.

We don't even look at them, unless we need to throw a strap before
putting fragile "top load" stuff on top of heavy stuff like 4,000
pound bundles of 2x12s. Its up to the drivers to secure the load (and
trailer) for transport.

I know for sure some of the trailers we load, I wouldn't want to
follow on the highway.
