I just removed a keystroke logging Trojan called IRCbot after a scan
yesterday that said I didn't have Conficker.

But this morning I'm getting an unusual message box that claims to be
"Updates".

It advises me I have a choice of rebooting now, or in five minutes.

Bwaaahahaha! Should've stayed away from those dodgy sites. Drive-by
infection?

Heh. Maybe it will crash his computer, and when he reinstalls Windows,

Don't hold your breath. There's NO divorce from krusty kritter. Our
relationship is "until death us do part" or Usenet ends.

Is there any way of telling whether or not this supposed "automatic
windows update" box really came from Microsoft? Right clicking the box
doesn't reveal what its properties are.

I went to the Systems control panel and turned automatic updates off,
and the little yellow icon with a ! mark in it disappeared from my
task bar, but it seems to me that whatever the automatic update (or
virus) was, it's still in the
Temporary folder...

What to do, what to do...
