Can't remember what the Ducati had as OE, but it lasted a decade, too.

You folks have convinced me not to swap out the battery.
I think I'm going to fail to replace the frame, as well. That cosmic ray
thing ... I think the other poster may have been joking.

Well, what about changing your blinker fluid, flushing the smoggy
summer air out of your tires, and lubing the muffler bearings?
Shirley you're going to do those necessary maintenance tasks.

I had that. During rain water picked up by my rear tire dripped along
the cables into turn signals. I couldn't figure out why my light bulbs
last so short, and why they are so dirty, until I checked it right after
rain.

At least he is doing something. I've a fried who bought my old bike,
and despite me reminding him at plenty of occasions to do some basic
maintenance, he's got no time...
